Simple illustration using Krita

Tags :

I’m a big fan of open source software and I really like the community and the feel that surounds Krita project.
Briefly, Krita is a free software that combines the abilities of Photoshop and Illustrator (a bit less). It’s available on Mac and PC but It excels in free drawing abilities using a drawing tablet. Plenty of brushes, textures, presets…ohhh…the possibilities really are endless here.
Lately I dug out this old simple illustration and I thought that I’ll share how I made it here.

It started as a rough sketch. An idea I had for an industrial museum but mainly I just wanted to have some fun. Screen Shot 2016-09-01 at 19.27.51

So the idea was to have some industrial, steampunk style wheels floating in clouds.
My favourite brushes are pencils with tilt option because they feel very natural. I did use assistant tool to draw the circles.

As often happens I changed my mind regarding the front wheel and made just one, but more prominent. All the time testing new textures.

Things started to look a bit better after I added background texture and started drawing in the clouds.
The final version looks like this. It’s not amazing, it’s not evan great, but it was a great time learning a new software and discovering new possibilities.

wheels & clouds

I wouldn’t be myself if I didn’t tell you where o get or find out more. Just go to their website here.
(They don’t pay me for this – it’s simply a free software that I like :))
