Last week I had a chance to attend a little talk by Nicola Middler speaking about ‘Look Up’ by exceptional Syrian artist Mohamad Khayata who was featured as part of ArtReach’s hugely successful Journeys Festival International.

You can find out more about Stitching my Syria back on their fb page

It was not a planned recording so I apologise for the quality, but if you couldn’t make it and still want to hear what it was about it’s here for you:

If you like it maybe I’ll do a better one next time 🙂

It is really interesting how art can blend with everyday life and how you can show through stories the different journeys that we’re all taking every day, no matter the country or nationality.

When was the last time you used storytelling as a device in your design project? Share in comments. We’d love to see them 🙂

Simple illustration using Krita

I’m a big fan of open source software and I really like the community and the feel that surounds Krita project.
Briefly, Krita is a free software that combines the abilities of Photoshop and Illustrator (a bit less). It’s available on Mac and PC but It excels in free drawing abilities using a drawing tablet. Plenty of brushes, textures, presets…ohhh…the possibilities really are endless here.

Design is an appreciation of beauty and organizing it in a coherent structure. Some structures created by nature are better left unorganised as this is their true beauty.

Leicester Football Stadium

The #fearless branding.

Branding of the Leicester Foxes.

Last year's championship winners Leicester Foxes did the unimaginable and climbed up the football ladder all the way to the top. Theirs is a perfect example of “from rags to riches” story and everyone loves it. Instead of focusing on their football achievements I wanted to get a closer look behind the scenes of the Foxes branding and media appearance.

Fishguard Bay painting

A picture is worth a thousand words, a painting makes them into a story.

Recently I was very lucky to admire some English countryside in a lovely company and of course I took lots of pictures. The view near Fishguard was particularly breathtaking and I really learned something new about myself that day. (Mainly that you can eat a yogurt with a snickers bar if you don’t happen to have a spoon – it makes for a very “posh” breakfast)

I decided to make a digital painting based on that picture and below are the steps I took to accomplish it.

Mountain Wale Illustration

How I converted a quick sketch into digital drawing.

When I have time I draw. I try to do this as often as I can and it’s mainly for fun so it’s not a surprise that I don’t develop the drawings further.
